  1. Metal Mining Discharge – Impacts and Control

Who Should Attend: This training course is designed for geologists, mining engineers, mine operators, consultants, regulators, cyanide management personnel, those involved in the permitting, design and operation and people involved with the hydrologic, hydraulic, environmental, civil, and engineering works.

Learning Expectations: The Metal Mining Discharge-Impacts and Control training course program addresses the impacts of metals on fish, other aquatic species, and human health and provide participants with improved skills and awareness of environmentally-sensitive mining practices in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. A variety of topics are covered in the training course program including a description of aquatic ecosystems, and how mining and other human activities discharge metals and acid rock drainage (ARD) to these ecosystems; the properties of metals, principles of metal toxicity, exposure pathways, factors affecting metal toxicity, and acute and chronic effects of each metal on aquatic organisms and human health; the toxicity testing methods, and source control and remediation of metal contamination and ARD at mine sites in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry.

Learning Expectations: The Design and Operation of Large Waste Dumps training course program focuses on the Design and Operation of stable, safe, and economically feasible Large Waste Dumps. Mine waste dumps are massive structures, which are often up to 400 meters high, contain in excess of one billion cubic meters of material, and often form mid-valley fills or rock drains in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. Instability of the structures has caused increased concern by mine operators and government regulators because of risk to the safety of personnel, equipment and infrastructure, and their impact on the environment in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. The training course program enables participants to gain an in-depth, practical knowledge of dump investigation, analysis, design, operating, monitoring and reporting procedures and methods, and an appreciation of environmental and safety issues and the regulatory in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. The training course program uses a series of studies by prominent geotechnical consultants and industry representatives, targeted at improving the understanding of the behavior of waste dumps, and developing a consistent database for them in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry.

Learning Expectations: The Environmental Health and Safety-Emergency Preparedness training course program is designed to provide participants with a set of practical guidelines on Environmental Emergency Preparedness, i.e., how to start managing and preparing for an environmental emergency in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. Knowledge from this training course program can be applied to a site emergency planning and response checklist in any mining or processing operation; site Environmental Management System, site Environmental Management Plan, and/or site emergency management preparedness and response Plan. Learning Expectations: The toxicity of cyanidation solutions is complex, as it involves not only individual compounds, but combinations of compounds which exhibit characteristics much different than any of the individual components. The increased awareness of the environmental implications associated with cyanidation has led to a tremendous increase in the knowledge of chemistry, analysis, toxicity and treatment of its process solutions in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. This training course program is designed to improve the technical skills of the participants regarding all aspects of cyanide in its relationship to the environment, humans, and mining in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. Who Should Attend: This training course program is designed for environmental management representatives, engineers, technicians, quality management representatives, executives, managers, supervisors, team leaders, staff personnel and all individuals who are involved in environmental management, planning, assessment and who carry out environmental remediation of sites and hazardous wastes..

Learning Expectations: Nowhere is the conflict between economic progress and environmental quality more apparent than in the mining industries. Major advances have been made in the use of reclamation technologies in the petroleum, oil, and gas industry. Mine wastewater pollution problems have not been addressed in terms of how to prevent famine from anticipated shortage of potable water.
